Interactive Game Poster
Walkthrough:
My interactions include: sounds/image replacement when clicking the treat on Guppy, shark toy on Guppy, water on Guppy, and Guppy. You can also place them back into the pile. There is a reset/credit screen after interacting with Guppy a certain amount of times. The background color slowly changes to more green the more you interact with Guppy and reaches a maximum after 5 interactions. Guppy’s eyes track your cursor.
Design Goals:
My main goal for the poster was for it to be playful and have the person interacting with the poster be able to do some things with Guppy. My aesthetics were guided to a more loose style of writing to emphasize that playfulness. Originally, the letters were a solid color, but after giving it some texture, I was able to make the poster seem a little more handmade and fun. I made the other art assets in that style because I wanted to be semi-realistic, but a little cartoony and blocky in places to emphasize the playfulness.
For the background music, I wanted something that would reflect the playfulness of the other components of the poster and chose Ukelele from bensound.com for its upbeat vibe without being too tense and energetic. In addition, the other sounds were tricky to make as I don’t have things like a squeaky toy or a dog. So I resorted to some other items such as a glass bowl and scratching some socks for the toy and scratch sound.
I found it very important to have Guppy be able to track the cursor to some extent and seem to observe the player as we observe Guppy to increase the feeling of interactivity in the poster. In addition, I wanted to have Guppy be able to be fed and played with to add more varying interaction. I wasn’t quite able to figure out how to create a “key”/sequence of events that you could input to get to a win-screen which would be a much more fun interaction to figure out.
